Top 2 Tuesday

This week on Top 2 Tuesday is Random Facts about Myself.

1. I know how to operate heavy machinery. Growing up, I spent a lot of time at my parents' rock quarry. I was always eager to learn how to operate the machinery, so my dad taught me. My favorite is the front end loader. I have become quite good at it too. My dad even has one at the house to use around the farm. I have even drove it while he was in the bucket. That's trust, huh?

2. I didn't earn my bachelor's degree before entering law school. I am a part of  6 year degree program at MU, skipping my last year of undergrad. I will not receive my bachelor's degree until I graduate law school. I think that I am the only person in my class that doesn't have a degree under my belt. There are fellow students who have bachelors, masters and even doctorate degrees. Then there is me, with nothing. At least we knock out two graduations in one weekend!

Hope that your Tuesday was wonderful!

Busy and Productive Weekend

This weekend started my Spring Break. I was so anxious for it to come.

~Friday~
I got up Friday morning around 4:30 (not by choice, just couldn't sleep) and left Columbia before 6:00 a.m. It was nice through since there wasn't a whole lot of traffic on the road. I arrived in Howell County around 9:00. Chris had taken the day off and was working on the house when I got there. He was sanding down our wood paneling getting ready for painting over the weekend.

My mother and I headed to Gainesville. Her uncle is selling his house and moving to West Plains. He will be downsizing a lot, so he wanted us to come look at his things. It was a very successful trip. I got tons of stuff for my house. The best part though was the picture that his wife hand painted before she passed away. I love home items with a family history.

When we got back in town, we stopped by Sears and Brown's Furniture looking for a new stove. That is the only major appliance that we have remaining to get. We then headed back to the house. We started removing wall paper in the kitchen. The top layer came right off with no problem. Underneath it thouugh was HORRIBLE pineapple wallpaper. Who picked that was crazy!!! We also got things picked up and ready for Saturday.

Friday night was also date night with Christopher. However, date night was ruined when his cousin called and asked us to hang out. Matt is still over the road and doesn't come in very much so we felt bad not meeting him. We went to play pool with him and his wife. I crashed early as you might expect.

~Saturday~
I got up early with my puppy. He just doesn't sleep in well. We had a few people spot by the house on Saturday. It happens all the time. People are always stopping by. We finished getting ready for paint and got primer put on the walls in the family room. While that dried, we finished removing all of the cabinets from the kitchen. We got stopped early Saturday due to the storm. We currently have limited lighting in the house right now, so when the natural light completely goes away to leave us with black clouds, you cannot do much.

We headed to the house and I fixed dinner of fried pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, greene beans, corn and bread. It was so unhealthy but so yummy. We then watched a movie as a family. (Yes, we are that cheesy). We watched The Blind Side. Great movie!!!

~Sunday~
Chris and I got up early to get a head start on everything for the day. We started right in in trimming off the room with paint. It was so time comsuming since we have so many windows, doors, floor trim and ceiling trim. Rolling only took about 40 minutes and we were done with coat one before lunch. It was cloudy, windy and chilly out and the paint took a while to dry. We only got the one coat on since we couldn't work real late in thr night.

After a lunch a piggies in a blanket, we got started on the wall paper. Parts of it came off real easy, but other parts are stuck the the wall like you wouldn't believe. Even the solution we bought couldn't unstick the glue. We have now got some more trips we got off the internet, so we will be trying that tonight. I'm anxious for things to get moving faster than they are. I have an empty kitchen, well except for a broken stove, a fridge and stubburn wall paper.

~This Week~
I am working at the Law Office of Steven Privette this week. I LOVE this job. I hope to get in some court viewing this week too. In the evenings I will be working on the house. I'll post some pictures later this week once the second coat of paint it on the family room and we get rid of all of the wall paper.

Spring Break Starts Now

After making it through my four classes today, it is finally my Spring Break. My employment professor has been gracious to cancel class for tomorrow, allowing me to get on the road sooner. I am so ready for the break from class, but more importantly, I am ready for the time to work on the house.

Upcoming projects for the week:

1. Family Room

Currently this room is UGLY!!! It has dark, old wood paneling. We have opted to save time and money by just painting it instead of removing it to put up sheet rock. It is a huge room and it is a shame they made it so dark in there. This will probably be Chris's favorite room in the house. It is right off the kitchen and has a beautiful rock fireplace.

We are hoping with a fresh coat of paint, this room will be warm and cozy as any family room should. I'll just be glad to say goodbye to the ugly wood paneling. We are thinking of painting it a neutral tan/beige color to complement the colors in the fireplace. I'll bring in colors with other decorations.

2. Kitchen

Remember my old, dated kitchen?

It too was dark and ugly. Luckily for me, we are reviving this room to be a welcoming kitchen and one I will love. I love to cook (Chris loves to eat) and I needed a good kitchen. Chris got his dream of a big shop, so I get mine of a nice kitchen. We will be removing the cabinets, countertops, stove and hood. We think the fridge and dishwasher are still good. We will then get final measurements and order our cabinets, which should be in next week too :)

I will also be trying to remove the ugly wallpaper in here too. We would rather have paint. It will be easier to texture the walls with nothing in the room.

3. Shop

We are framing in the shop. It currently has five bays, but they are all open. We are making a garage for each of us and closing in the rest for Chris a shop. Sorry, but I don't have any pictures of shop front. I plan to take one this weekend before we get started on it so I will have a good before-after shot of it.

4. Misc.

I'm sure that while paint is drying or wallpaper remover solution is soaking that I will be roped into helping clean up outside. Chris is still working on some trees that are down, cutting it up for firewood and we have plently of wood to split.

5. Work

I love my job at home! I am always anxious to get back down there. I love my girls at work and I love what I do. This summer should be even more exciting when I am Rule 13 certified and can handle my own cases (with Steve's supervision, of course)

Sounds like a lot to do. Hopefully we can get it all done. We have been blessed with huge families that all love to help. There are usually people who show up every time we are working on the house. Free family labor is the best!

I got lucky today. Chris left work early due to the weather and went to start on a few projects. I know he started on the cabinets and after my mom got home, they were going to start sanding on the paneling. We shall see how far along they got once I get into town tomorrow.

I will try to blog as much a possible while I am home, but it just might not be as often. I will definately post before an after pictures of the rooms.

New Kitchen Plans and House Update

We got a new quote on kitchen cabinets. This time one that we like. From this place in Springfield, we will be getting better quality cabinets and fancier doors than the previous quote and most importantly cheaper. This is the newest drawing we received.

Things are moving along finally and I am so excited. Out contractor is starting on the house Friday. He plans to be done within 3 weeks. Chris should hopefully be moved in by April 15th. YAH!!!! He will be handling all of the major projects and I hope to get all of the minor cosmetic changes done during next week (well the ones that we are planning on doing til the summer)

Chris will be working on closing in the shop so we can have a garage. We have decided that we can save money with Chris doing that. He did used to build houses before. He should be able to handle everything, except actually hanging the garage doors.

I'm excited to see big changes at the farm over the next few weeks. :)

Top 2 Tuesday

Things You Cannot Live Without

1. My Cell Phone

This thing is my life. My schedules, reminders, numbers are all in here. Living 200 miles away from my family leaves my cell phone as my only connection to them. Trust me, I am on it a lot talking to Chris, my parents, my sister, grandma and other fmaily members. Plus, being on th busy schedule I am between work and school, this phone has my email and facebook connections. I never leave the house without it.

2. Chapstick - Softlips

I hate having dry lips. I use Softlips like its going out of style. I always have some in my pocket, in my purse, in my backback, in the car and in my desk at work (in Willow of course). You will hardly see me without it.

Thanks to the Undomestic Momma for picking such a fun topic.

Weekend Plans Ruined

This weekend was supposed to be spent in Versailles with Chris's mother, step-father and little brother. However, mother nature had different plans for me.

I knew that there was a chance of bad weather, but with the warm temperatures that we had, I never imagined that it would get too bad. I was wrong. I arrived in Versailles around 6:30 last night. I played with Tyler, talked with Cheryl and Rodney. Rodney fixed us dinner (steak, potatoes, salad and corn ... yum). After dinner we watched a movie, Have You Heard about the Morgans. Really good movie.

I woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow on the grass, but nothing on the roads. The forecast didn't look good, so I got around to leave. Before I left though, Chris's mom was gracious to give Chris and I some of her Americana decor for our house. I will post pictures of what I got tomorrow. I will have to unpack it. I drove back to Columbia in a rain/snow mix. Luckily the roads weren't slick. I met Maggie for lunch at Chilis and then took another trip to Home Depot. I only bought one thing today, just a new light for over my kitchen sink.

It turns out that it was a good thing that I left. By 6:00 tonight, Cheryl had 4-5 inches of snow. Crazy huh, especially considering yesterday it was 70 degrees. I hope the weather picks back up. I want better weather for my Spring Break that begins Friday.

Happy Friday has Arrived

I felt bad this morning because that I cannot participate in the Show us Your Life this week. This week's topic was Mission Trips. I have never participated in one. I went on several trips with the church when I was younger and we performed mission work, but I had never been on a mission trip. And I might not ever get to go on one. When I move home, Chris and I plan on getting back in church, but with our careers, I doubt that we could go on a mission trip.

This week started off fast, then yesterday hit. It was such a long day. I hate makeup classes. They ruin my daily routine. I am completely a creature of habit and am not happy when my schedule doesn't go as planned. Boy am I glad that I am a 2L and am not also stressing with finishing my appellate brief. This time last year was way worse that it is right now. With the stress of yesterday, I ended up not being able to do my normal Thursday routine (dinner with Sara). Oh well, I had a productive evening at home getting things ready for the weekend. Now, I am just glad that it is Friday and that it is beautiful outside (at least for today)

This weekend, I am heading to visit Chris's mom. She had been asking for me to come visit for some time. She lives about an hour away from where I go to school. I try to go see her once or twice a semester, but so far this semester I hadn't been able to (stupid weather and then the MPRE). So I have decided to go see her now before Spring Break since I will be busy preparing for finals after Spring Break.

I have truely been blessed to have Chris's mom in my life. She is an inspirational woman and role model. She took me in from day one and made me feel part of the family. You hear jokes and horror stories all the time about crazy mother in laws, but I truely lucked out with Cheryl. I have thankful to have her friendship and support.

This is us for the Apple Festival (in Versailles) 2 years ago

Cheryl and all of her kids at Christmas

Chris will not be meeting me there this weekend. He will be working away on the house. Since the weather is supposed to be crappy, I think he might actaully work inside the house, getting things ready for me to paint next week.

During the weekend, I will also be able to hang out with my favorite 5 year old little boy (Chris's brother, Tyler). He is the sweetest little boy, but also has the temper of his older brothers. Luckily for me, he loves me and is never mean to me. I will arrive at their house to be greeted with Tyler running out to me. Gosh, I love that littl guy...

I'm not sure yet what is on the agenda for tomorrow, but I can guarantee that we will have a blast and I will be fed good home-cooked meals all weekend.

Hop you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

5 Question Friday

Time for this week's Five Question Friday

1. Have you ever had a celeb sighting? I have personally met Nascar driver Carl Edwards. He is from Columbia. I met him at a charity event. I got his autograph for my dad. We also took a picture together and talked about his win the night before. He is a super nice guy

2. What temperature do you keep your house? For winter, my house stays around 69-70 (I turn this down when I am not home to save costs) In the summer, my house will be at whatever it is outside, I typically don't turn on the air til its like 90 decrees outside. Then when I turn it on it will be around 74. I hate being cold. But these numbers will probably change when Chris and I move in together. We are on way different temperature spectrums

3. Do you notice dust at other peoples homes? Yes, but the only person I would ever say anything to is my mother and Chris (he is terrible about keeping his house clean)

4. What's the worst job you ever had? I can honestly say that I have never had a bad job. When I was younger I worked for my grandparents and my parents. Now I work at two law offices (one in Columbia and one in Willow). I have been blessed to love all of my jobs

5. What is your most sentimental possession? In a about ayear and a half, I might say my college degrees, but since I don't have those yet, I shall say my fake flower from Chris. Getting close to our second Christmas together, he had been buying me flowers often and for all special occasions. Being the cheap person that I am, told him to stop buying flowers so often since they just die. For Christmas that year, Chris bought me a fake white rose (my favorite flower) with a tag attached saying "Like this flower, my love for you will never die"

House Update

This week so far has gone by relatively fast. It is hard to believe that Wednesday is almost over. I'm anxious for the weekend. But I have tomorrow to get through first. We have a bonus class for Tax, so I will have five classes tomorrow, starting at 8 and ending at 6. LONG DAY.

Updates for this week. We have located a place out of Springfield that is a warehouse for cabinets (bathroom and kitchen). They seem to be better quality than the original ones we were going to get and hopefully they will offer us a better price. We can still get oak. We can even get a raised panel and they are also arched on the upper cabinets. We ordered a sample door. It arrived yesterday in Willow. Chris even liked it. That is progress in itself. He hasn't had much of an opinion about the house all along. Since I wansn't there to see if, my mom emailed me this picture. I had her put it next to her cabinets so I could see the color. It is beautful.

I hope that the price from here is more in our price range. We shall see. I also got a new faucet from this place as well. I spent at least an hour at Home Depot looking for a kitchen faucet but at a reasonable price. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on a faucet since it wasn't a permenant home and I don't need my dream kitchen now. So, at the time, I settled on a cheaper faucet, since all the faucets with high necks were EXPENSIVE. This website had one for $37.00. I was pumped so I bought it.

It is probably really sad how excited I get about a kitchen faucet. I just love shopping for things for our house. I can't wait for it to be done.

The electrical work is all done inside the house. The remaining work has to be done in the well house and the shop. However, we re waiting on that for a little bit until we can get the shop closed in and the well house door fixed. Right now, there is no need to re-wire those buildings and then have someone else steal it again.

We are waiting for our final quote from our contractor. He should be ready to start next week if we can get a price worked out. It is a very exciting time. There should be lots of work going on while I am home on break.

I promise that there will be pictures of the house (before and afters) from over break.

Top 2 Tuesday

This week's Top Two Tuesday presented by The Undomestic Momma is Favorite Celeb Styles. After already seeing a few posts on the blogs that I read, I have learned we like the same ones.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am pretty classic and casual in my style. I don't branch out much and have probably always dressed older than my actual age. These are the two celebs I think most embody m style too.

1. Reese Witherspoon - I just love her in general. She is so adorable. I like her style in clothes and hair. I think that after I get married and chop my hair off again, I may do a cute Reese bob. Here are a few of pics of Reese.

See even dressed up, she is classic.

2. Jennifer Anniston - I have loved Jenn from the days of watching Friends every week. She always appears to be put together, but also in a simple and classic way. Here are a few pics of her.

Hope that you hav enjoyed! Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Weekend Recap

My weekends home are always my favorite. I look forward to them weeks in advance (currently it is two weeks til my return home again). This weekend was an extra special weekend. I took a friend Maggie home with me. She grew up in a large town in Texas and had never seen the country life.

We first left Columbia around 11 Friday morning and headed straight for Howell County (stopping in Rolla to pick up Steak and Shake). We headed the the rock quarry to see my parents. I got Maggie to go on a ride on the front end loader with my brother. She was terrified. See.

But by the time they came back from loading a truck, Maggie was driving the thing. It is a very empowering experience to drive something so huge. That afternoon we went and look at some kitchen cabinets for my house and ran a few errands.

After dinner, Chris and I decided to take her to West Plains. We didn't do anything special, but just drove around, showing her the town. We turned in fairly early that night and went home to play with my puppy. Dozer was a joy to have to the weekend. My mother was glad I was there to take him over night since he wakes up at like 3-4 in the monring. I didn't mind. Plus he is adorable.

For Saturday, we didn't do anything too special either. We ran a few errands, had lunch with my grandmother, my sister and her two boys. After finishing what we needed to in town, we headed back to Pomona to work on my house. I warned Maggie prior to coming that she would probably meet a lot of my family and there was no telling who would show up. I was correct. My nephew from Houston came down and spent the afternoon/evening with us. Chris's cousin, Shay, was there to help work on the house and stayed for dinner. My mother's uncle was there too (he had been doing landscaping).

We didn't get a whole lot done on the house this weekend. Luckily for me, Chris has been working super hard outside on the house. He loves our little farm and really enjoys working on it. This is what our little house looks like.

The grass isn't quite this green right now and we have done some work outside trimming shrubs and brush. I will post more pictures of the house over spring break as we begin transforming more of the outside of the house.
After working on the house, we had a cookout for everyone there. I made steaks. YUM!!! Then we had homemade ice cream for dessert. Neither Maggie nor Shay had ever had it. I should have brought some of that home with me.

Sunday, we stayed around the house mostly. We had a big breakfast. We also met with our contractor to go over a few things on the house. I'm anxious for him to get started. About one week more for him. Later, we intruduced Maggie to her first cow. She had never seen one up close before. She also had her first opportunity to shot a gun. Amazing how she grew up in Texas and never shot one before. I brought down my pink (yes, pink) revolver. After just 4 shots, se hit the target. Maybe I'll be taking her pistol shopping in the next few weeks ;) We left town around 2:30 getting into Columbia around 5:30.

It was a great weekend. Hopefully we didn't scare Maggie off. She says she will come back over the summer and I hope that she does.

Today the electrician is starting on the house. We also have a backhoe operator there pulling stumps and making a drainage ditch by the shop. It makes me very excited for things to start moving on the house. Hopefully no one steals our new electricial work.
